KATELYN’S STORY

“Not only did they help us with food and utilities, but they did so with compassion and dignity. They gave us hope.”

Katelyn thought she had built a safe and stable life for her children. But in a single night, everything changed.

After years of carefully planning her way out of an abusive relationship, she had been saving what she could while working delivery jobs. Then a violent outburst forced Katelyn and her children to flee with nothing. Their bank accounts were emptied, and suddenly, they were sleeping in their car—unsure of where to turn next.

When a friend told her about Community Link, she wasn’t even sure what to expect.

She arrived on a day the food pantry was closed. But instead of being turned away, she was welcomed in.

That day, Katelyn left with food for her family—and something more. She was connected with a caseworker who walked alongside her every step of the way, helping her navigate resources and begin rebuilding her life.

With support from Community Link, Katelyn was able to secure stable housing, cover her electric deposit, and access childcare so she could continue working. Ongoing food assistance helped relieve the daily pressure of providing for her children.

But what made the biggest difference wasn’t just the support—it was how it was given.

“Not only did they help us with food and utilities, but they did so with compassion and dignity,” Katelyn shared. “They gave us hope.”

Today, Katelyn and her children are on a path toward stability. And when everything felt uncertain, she found more than a meal—she found compassion, dignity, and a way forward.

Because of you, families like Katelyn’s find more than a meal—they find hope when they need it most.

HEIDI’S STORY

“You’ve made it possible for my kids to feel like kids again.”

When Heidi lost her job and her husband’s trucking income became unreliable, she worried about how to provide for their two young daughters. Groceries kept getting more expensive, and the family’s budget couldn’t keep up.

Coming to Community Link changed everything. “It’s life changing,” Heidi said. “It’s absolutely made us feel safer, that we’ll be able to get by. We would have been maxing out credit cards right now if it weren’t for this help.”

Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, Heidi’s daughters have food on the table, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even small treats that let them feel like kids again. “Thank you,” Heidi shared. “You’ve made it possible for my kids to feel like kids again.”

HEATHER’S STORY

“It meant everything.”

For Heather, medical expenses consumed what little money her family had. “When I say there’s no food in the house, there’s no food in the house,” she told us.

Coming to Community Link gave her family breathing room. They received groceries and even a special face cleanser her teenage daughter needed to help clear up her skin. “That was the only thing I had in my house for her to use. I couldn’t afford to buy it, and it worked. It meant everything.”

For Heather and her children, the pantry was more than a meal. It was dignity, relief, and hope.

ABEL’S STORY

“It’s been a blessing, big time. This has helped us beyond explanation.”

After two surgeries left Abel unable to work, he struggled to care for his mother and 11-year-old son.

“It’s been a blessing, big time,” he said. “This has helped us beyond explanation.” For Abel’s family, something as simple as a bag of groceries means security and a chance to focus on recovery. “My son’s a big fan of spaghetti, anytime I’m able to make that with the groceries, it’s a win-win,” Abel added with a smile.

Community Link gave Abel’s family what every family deserves, food his son not only needs but likes, relief, and the reassurance they’re not alone.

JIM’S STORY

“There were times before I came that I was just living off bologna. Eggs weren’t in the budget that week.”

Jim is a single father who raised two children on his own, he later became the caretaker for his mother when she could no longer live alone.

“I’ve always had a purpose,” Jim says. “Taking care of my kids. Taking care of my mom.”

For years, Jim worked long days managing service departments and hauling equipment across Texas. He never imagined he would one day need help affording groceries.

But when a safety issue forced him into retirement earlier than planned, his income dropped overnight to Social Security alone.

There were times before I came,” Jim admits, “that I was just living off bologna. Eggs weren’t in the budget that week.

When a neighbor told him about Community Link, he felt unsure.

“I’ve always worked for everything I’ve had,” he says. “It felt weird.”

What surprised him most was the relief.

“It takes weight off your shoulders. You’re not worrying so much. You know you’ll be able to eat something decent.”

Today, Jim focuses on staying healthy. He joined the YMCA, has lost 45 pounds, and works hard to keep up with his grandchildren.

“My health is my wealth,” he says. “Even if you had a million dollars, if you’re sick it doesn’t do you any good.”

Nutritious food is part of that health. And your generosity makes that possible.
