Nathan knew he was close to turning things around.

After being accepted into a CDL training program through Lone Star Truck Driving Academy, he could finally see a path toward steady work and a reliable income. But there was one major obstacle standing in his way.

Nathan didn’t have a place to stay.

As a veteran living on a limited income, he was experiencing homelessness while trying to attend training in Mansfield. Each day meant figuring out where he would sleep, how he would get to class, and how he would hold onto this opportunity he had worked so hard to secure.

That’s when he was referred to Community Link.

Through case management, Nathan was met with someone who didn’t just see his immediate need — but saw his potential. Together, they worked through the challenges in front of him, starting with something simple but critical: a safe place to stay while he completed his training.

With support from Community Link, Nathan was able to secure temporary shelter, removing the daily uncertainty that could have derailed his progress. From there, the support continued.

He stayed focused on his training.

He showed up.

And he kept moving forward.

Just weeks later, Nathan passed his CDL driving test.

He was placed in a job with one of Lone Star’s partner companies and began a new chapter built on stability and independence. He also secured housing of his own, with Community Link helping cover his security deposit and moving expenses so he could take that final step into a place to call home.

But what made the difference wasn’t just the assistance.

It was having someone walk alongside him — helping him navigate the path forward when it mattered most. Community Link’s case management program is designed to do exactly that: meet people where they are and help them move toward long-term stability, whether that means finding housing, accessing job training, or connecting to the right resources at the right time.

Today, Nathan is no longer wondering what comes next. He’s building a future. And when everything could have fallen apart, he found more than help — he found a path forward.

Because of you, neighbors like Nathan find more than a meal — they find the support, stability, and opportunity to start again.
